Summary/Objective

This position supports SOE faculty and staff seeking funding for research, education, service, training, and other programs from government agencies, corporations, private foundations, and other potential organizations. This includes: identifying potential new funding sources; developing funding resources; preparing proposals and grant applications; writing and editing grants; collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on grant applications; development of budgets to ensure compliance with University, and Sponsor practices, policies, and requirements; preparation of internal and sponsor forms; and coordinating the internal SOE approval process. This position requires substantial cooperation with research faculty within SOE, and the research support infrastructure both within SOE and the university more broadly.

Essential Functions
  1. Policy and Compliance- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and university policies and regulations Provides policy guidance and assistance with all aspects of proposal development, administrative forms, sponsor-required certifications and representations, and compliance requirements. Updates faculty on AU research development resources and changes in regulations – attends regular Grant Roundtable meetings and attend institutional research administration training
  2. PI Outreach and Training- Under the supervision of the Director, assist in creating templates and educational materials to disseminate to faculty and staff.
  3. Post-Award Grant Activities- Works with grant project staff to ensure all expenses are processed in accordance with University policies, procedures and applicable sponsor restrictions. This includes monthly review of all grant expenses, payroll and purchasing (including purchasing cards) activity to ensure accurate allocations. Prepares payroll change, Journal Entry transaction and financial reports as necessary. Maintains databases for awards and proposals, and provides reports and analysis of grants activity when requested.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in research, finance, or closely related field
  • Knowledge of appropriate federal rules pertaining to the administration and management of sponsored grants and contracts (OMB Uniform Guidance, Federal Acquisition Regulations) and strong knowledge of funding sources (federal, non-federal, especially NIH, NSF, Department of Education, DC Government)).
  • 3-5 Years' experience initiating, developing, and bringing grant and contract proposals to completion/submission, preferably in an institution of higher education.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Skill using Cayuse and business intelligence tools.
