Nurse Coordinator

Job Summary:
The Nurse Coordinator is responsible for medical triage, case management, facilitation of daily clinical operations and clinical flow at Simmons Health Center. The Nurse Coordinator provides clinical services to students and coordinates care with nurse practitioner, physician and outside referral sources. This role manages COVID-19 test result tracking, contact tracing, and quarantine and isolation guidance as well as manages clinical clearance program for nursing students and athletes.
Responsibilities:
Case Management
- Coordinate patient follow-up, triage X-ray requests and outside
referrals;
- Coordinate MD/NP review of test results;
- Communicate test results to students when appropriate,
interprets as necessary;
- Confer with MD/NPs and other clinical staff on appropriate
course of treatment;
- Direct students with insurance question to the appropriate
resource;
- Manage COVID-19 test result tracking, assist with contact
tracing, and isolation/quarantine;
- Resolve individual patient concerns/complaints with Medical and
Administrative Directors;
- Liaison between Health Center and other University Departments,
especially Student Affairs/Residential Life, to resolve student
concerns within boundaries of confidentiality.
Direct Patient Care:
- Provide telephone triage consistent with current protocol,
including triage of students with COVD-like symptoms;
- Follow patients in Isolation/Quarantine per the COVID-19
Protocol;
- Provide direct clinical care to patients when
appropriate;
- Provide immunizations, first aid, nebulizer treatments and
other RN-directed treatments;
- Monitor patients under observation.
Health Clearance
- Oversee health clearance for athletes, nursing students and
other academic programs;
- Collaborate with Nursing, Nutrition and Athletics departments
to coordinate policies with regard to clearance;
- Review individual records for compliance;
- Arrange for completion of missing immunizations;
- Coordinate schedule for participation clearance exams for
athletes;
- Works with Medical Director, Administrative Director and
program directors to resolve outstanding individual clearance
issues.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Oversee management of appointment schedules;
- Manage and Update database of COVID-19 cases,
isolation/quarantine, contacts;
- Maintain provider on-call schedule; manage communication with
Public Safety for coverage;
- Assist with student immunization compliance efforts;
- Assist front desk staff, respond to student requests for copies
of medical records and immunization records;
- Collaborate with Registrar's office to review student medical
records for readmission, LOA's, withdrawals;
- Provides information on Health Center policies and procedures
for all University Departments;
- Assist with check-in and incoming phone call coverage when
requested;
- Assist with maintenance of CLIA-compliant lab on-site and
stocking of lab/clinic supplies.
Teaching and Learning:
- Attend staff meetings, participate in the development,
implementation and evaluation of the standards of practice at the
Health Center;
- Attend in-service teaching programs at the Health Center and
outside professional meetings (ACHA, NECHA, other programs) to
update skills and maintain accreditation;
- Arrange and participate in clinical and administrative
orientation of new staff and NP students.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing with a current Massachusetts
License;
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience preferred with a focus on
urgent/triage nursing and experience in higher
education;
- This is a 16 hr/week, 10-month position during the academic
year.
