Graphic Designer

Job Summary

The graphic designer will elevate Elmhurst University’s brand by designing dynamic, creative content for a variety of platforms. In coordination with the senior graphic designer, this role will create high-impact pieces, with a focus on fundraising and institutional materials. Attention to detail and a commitment to excellence are key to success in this role.

Essential Functions
  • Serves as designer for institutional design projects, including online and print advertising, brochures, newsletters, direct mail, website, magazine, social media assets, event publicity, the course catalog, etc.
  • Coordinates print production workflow by identifying cost-effective vendors, collaborating with campus clients on creative, making revisions, and delivering completed projects on time.
  • Brainstorms and develops designs based on written and spoken ideas from campus clients.
  • Is able to follow the University’s existing style but add fresh creative ideas into the mix.
  • Supports senior graphic designer as a secondary brand steward, contributing to an institutional identity guide and maintaining campus-wide compliance.
  • Functions as a key member of the Office of Marketing and Communications, working with other graphic designers, copywriters, illustrators, and project managers.
  • Maintains an organized file system, collaborating in and using our cloud file management and project management software.
  • Serves as campus photographer when needed and can retouch and color correct photography.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement, with openness to constructive feedback about designs.
  • Supports mission, vision and values.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication design or fine art.
  • Two years of experience in design; higher education experience a plus.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, and comfortable working in a Mac or PC environment (office has both).
  • Familiarity with pre-press techniques, and ability to deliver print-ready files to vendors.
  • Excellent multitasking, project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong proofreading skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to high standards.
  • A passion for creativity, design, social media and emerging technologies.
  • Can manage multiple projects from inception to completion within established deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience with light video editing and web design a plus.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
