Summary of Job Duties:In collaboration with the Program Director, the AD will be responsible for coordinating, staffing, budgeting, implementing, evaluating, and reporting on all aspects of co-curricular programming and support services. The AD will also work in conjunction with other TRIO SSS staff and campus partners to monitor and update the participant database and participant files in preparation for the Annual Performance Report and for reporting to other relevant program stakeholders and campus partners. The position reports to the Director of TRIO STEM.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, sociology, public administration, communications, or related field
  • Related experience in education, academic and career advisement, or teaching with knowledge of retention strategies
  • Two years’ experience in higher education setting
Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, student personnel, social work, or related area
  • Three years of professional, higher education/student affairs experience in TRIO Student Support Services or other TRIO programs
  • Experience with mentoring and advising in a college environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong ability to mentor and advise students.
  • Ability to conceptualize program functions and procedures and implement those relevant to improving program efficiency.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of and skill working with student communities who have been historically underrepresented by institutions of higher education.
  • Ability to apply high-level analytical skills to take effective action while independently carrying out assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to promote, organize and facilitate student instruction, group meetings, and staff training.
  • Proficient skills with word processing, basic design software, spreadsheets, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, cloud-based storage applications, Zoom, and other video conferencing and online meeting tools.
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a large university environment.
  • Ability to utilize student information systems and other required databases to track student data and develop cohesive reports on program outcomes.
  • Apply judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality in performing complex tasks.
  • Excellent customer service and public relations skills, including social media.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple work priorities and organize various projects and follow safety and confidentiality protocols.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The AD will assist with program recruitment and enrollment.
  • The AD will assist with activities to improve participant academic progress and personal development.
  • The AD will ensure TRIO SSS is meeting program objectives by coordinating opportunities for program participants to receive specialized academic coaching.
  • Assist with financial support services including increasing financial literacy, and helping students apply for federal financial aid and other scholarships.
  • The AD will assist in managing the implementation and maintenance of technology and online resources.
  • The AD will supervise the staffing of Work-Study student employees.
  • The AD will assist with managing budgeted resources to effectively provide services and achieve outcomes.
  • The AD will assist with processes for data entry and collection, and program assessment and evaluation to ensure proper tracking of program participants and effectiveness of services.
  • The AD will collaborate with University partners by serving on committees, task forces, and workgroups that help the interests of TRIO SSS eligible students.
Other Job Duties:
  • Service as a retention advisor to students by providing intrusive academic, career, and financial aid advisement.
  • Monitoring participants’ progress, conducting assessments, referring for diagnostic services.
  • Instruction of college/career essentials skills in a TRIO freshmen experience.
  • Managing development of evolving technology/processes for data collection/analysis.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork. Requires consistent on-time attendance.
Salary Information:

$42,000-$44,000/year

Working Relationships: This position will interact daily with three departmental staff members, and frequently with other University faculty, students, and staff.

List Employees Supervised: This employee will directly supervise Work Study students, and in the absence of the Director will supervise other staff including the Program Assistant and Academic Program Specialist.

Special Job Dimensions: Work requirements will include the ability to travel and chaperone students to various events and activities, as well as work some evenings and weekends, based on programming needs. Additionally, the job requires the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment; skills to communicate information clearly and effectively to internal and external audiences and all levels of management both virtually and in-person; ability to work collaboratively with and gain support from a broad and diverse array of constituents, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, parents, community members and visitors.
