    Department Summary
University Advancement is responsible for strategically positioning the UO with its various constituents and securing resources to further its aims. The division consists of approximately 200 employees primarily working out of Eugene, with offices in Portland and Bend. Departments within University Advancement include: Advancement/UO Alumni Association; Development; Stewardship and Public Events; Advancement Operations; Federal Affairs; and State and Community Affairs.

Development in University Advancement is a comprehensive fundraising department supporting the entire university campus with an overall mission to sustain and enhance excellence at the University of Oregon.

    Position Summary
The Associate Director of Development works as part of Development to promote university fundraising priorities and image to alumni, parents, and friends of the university. The associate director will have a specific focus on developing relationships with and philanthropic support from alumni who are part of multi-generational UO alumni families. This position will concentrate on gifts in the “leadership annual giving” ($2,500 - $24,999) and non-major gift ($25,000 - $99,999) ranges. Occasional work in the major gift ($100k+) range is possible depending upon donor interest, but is not a focus of the position.

This position is field-oriented, requiring frequent travel and direct contact with donors and donor prospects. The associate director works collaboratively with colleagues in the assigned unit, Development, and across the university to identify new prospects and strategically cultivate alumni, parents, and friends. The associate director will be responsible for meeting fundraising goals as they relate to the strategic needs of the university and the assigned unit, priority, or region. Performance as measured against these goals will be evaluated annually.

This position reports to the Associate Vice President, Portland Development and Alumni Engagement. Travel within Oregon as well as to cities in other states up to 50% of the time is an essential expectation of this position. This position is funded by University Advancement.

    Minimum Requirements
    1. Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
    2. Two years of professional or volunteer experience in development or fundraising; OR three years' experience in a closely related field such as corporate sales.

    Professional Competencies
    1. Working with donors and prospects: Ability to identify, cultivate, and solicit donors and prospects and build relationships with key constituents connected with the university. Ability to initiate gift planning conversations and build relationships with volunteers.
    2. Portfolio management and systems: Ability to develop strategies for reaching and engaging with prospects and regularly use Advance donor database and other tools to find and update donor information.
    3. Professionalism and citizenship: Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with fundraising colleagues and support staff and maintain professionalism when working with others.
    4. Institutional navigation and industry knowledge: Ability to make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospective donors to specific university needs; ability to maintain core campus relationships and familiarity with industry best practices in major giving.
    5. Volunteer management: Ability to work with volunteers, integrate giving strategy with volunteer opportunities, and support board giving and/or a volunteer development committee.
    6. Strategic planning: Ability to match pipeline strength, donor interests, and philanthropic priorities in strategic planning; ability to articulate how one's individual initiatives and goals fit into programmatic direction and use the unit business plan to address questions about direction and priorities.
    7. Ability to interact, communicate, and work effectively with individuals, recognizing and respecting the many and varied identities of each person.
    8. Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. If work experience is in a non-development field, preference will be given to those with relevant experience in the development field.
