Department Summary
The Prevention Science Institute (PSI) is a multi-disciplinary institute focused on understanding human development, preventing behavioral health problems, and implementing effective interventions in community settings. The PSI encompasses focus areas consistent with the field of prevention science, including prevention and intervention, and implementation science. Understanding effective intervention strategies and the outcomes associated with these interventions across multiple domains of functioning, including biological, social, and contextual, is the focus of research at the PSI. The core mission of the PSI is to improve the lives and well-being of children, individuals, and families throughout the lifespan. The PSI is committed to research that expands our understanding of interventions and development with diverse populations, and actively seeks to promote research that reduces health disparities in service utilization.

Position Summary
The Project Coordinator (PC) will be involved in organizing key research activities across multiple federally-funded human subjects' research projects led by Dr. Leslie Leve. The research projects are complex and include multi-component center grants, multi-site projects, longitudinal research studies, newly funded projects, community partnerships, human subjects and biospecimen data activities, and pilot research and development projects. Current funded research projects within the Leve Research Lab bring several million dollars, annually.

The PC will work closely with the research investigator(s), lab manager, other project coordinators, and other project staff to implement human subjects' research activities within the Leve lab. This position will assist with developing project protocols and monitoring the day-to-day coordination of research activities, including regulatory processes such as IRB and biosafety protocols. PC will also collaborate with external project staff at other institutions and/or organizations, when applicable to the project.

The PC will supervise a team of research assistant staff and/or undergraduate students who recruit and/or conduct participant assessments via a variety of methods (e.g., in-person, phone, survey, virtual), and will train new project staff and students on recruitment and assessment protocols. The PC will be responsible for the quality control and quality assurance of the research activities to help ensure that protocols and procedures are reliable throughout the duration of the project. In addition, when applicable to the project, this position will coordinate the collection of participant biospecimen samples which includes overseeing the collection process and sample storage to minimize risk and ensure quality control. Where applicable, the PC will coordinate clinical trial regulatory materials. Where applicable, the PC will oversee and coordinate travel for research team members who conduct off-site research activities.

The PC will assist the investigative team with new and ongoing development and refinement of instruments, procedures, manuals, and piloting projects; provide assessment-related information for grant applications and annual progress reports; and coordinate project staffing, and equipment and supply purchasing. The PC will be responsible for tracking project milestones and ensuring regular meetings occur between the investigative team and team working groups.

Flexibility is required in regard to work schedule and time; the applicant must be able to assist assessment staff with scheduling challenges as they arise.

Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS degree with coursework appropriate to the position
  • Five years related or equivalent combination of training and experience appropriate to the position
  • Two years of supervisory experience

  • Exceptional time management skills, with a strong attention to detail

  • Excellent planning and project prioritization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills to obtain, provide, or exchange information with project collaborators and staff, including a capacity for sensitivity, confidentiality, and diligence with regard to personnel and human subjects information
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds as well as to develop knowledge of, respect for, those from a broad array of cultures and backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, understand, explain, and comply with university and government policies, rules, and regulations
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data/information
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to represent the PSI in a professional manner with diverse set of stakeholders including, investigators, staff, administrators, students, and research participants
  • Ability to manage complex environments in a calm, constructive, and professional manner
  • Strong technical ability and knowledge; high level of competence in managing and organizing computer data files; assessing FTP servers, using study databases, troubleshooting basic technical problems.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Three or more years of direct supervisory experience
  • Five or more years of participant recruitment experience
  • Experience collecting and/or overseeing the collection of human biospecimen samples (e.g., salivary cortisol, saliva DNA, blood spots).
  • Knowledge of clinical trials regulatory procedures
  • Knowledge of participant tracking databases
  • Experience working with adoption agencies or adoptive and birth families
  • Experience working with underserved communities.
  • Experience working with both on-site and remote teams
  • Experience using Concur Travel Software
  • Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and databases
