Lander University, the fastest growing public institution of higher education in South Carolina, invites nominations and applications for the appointment of Vice President for Student Experience and Quality Assurance. Founded in 1872, Lander is a co-educational, state-assisted, comprehensive, regional, four-year, teaching university in Greenwood, S.C. With approximately 4,000 students, Lander provides exceptional educational opportunities within its traditional liberal arts and science programs, and its professional programs in business, education, and nursing.

In 2016, the University approved a new mission statement and developed a bold strategic plan, entitled Launch, which continues to result in student success and academic growth across the entire university. Lander’s Fall 2021 enrollment marks the largest in its 148-year history. Since the Fall of 2015, Lander’s cumulative enrollment increase of 42% is the largest percentage increase of all the four-year, public, higher education institutions in South Carolina and Lander projects an enrollment of 5,000 students in the next three years. In addition to the enrollment growth, the University’s endowment has grown by approximately 100% since 2015.

Through five academic colleges, a school of nursing, and an honors college, Lander offers students over 90 areas of study, including 16 signature academic programs in emerging and high-demand fields, which are attracting academically talented students from across the state and the nation. Along with its tremendous growth, Lander continues to be recognized for its quality and innovative academic programs. In 2020, U.S. News & World Report placed the University at #5 among the Top Public Schools in the South. It also named Lander as one of the South’s best colleges for veterans. Athletically, Lander competes at the NCAA Division II level as a member of the highly competitive Peach Belt Conference. Lander also has the Lander University Equestrian Center, the first university-based equestrian facility in South Carolina to offer academic, therapeutic, and sporting opportunities for students and community members.

Known for its natural beauty, low cost of living, and wonderful communities, Greenwood is located an hour south of Greenville. A highly diverse city with a population of approximately 23,000 people, the cost of living in Greenwood is approximately 15% lower than the national average. Along with manufacturing, which makes up approximately 25% of the local industry, major industries in Greenwood include retail, healthcare, and education. The Vice President for Student Experience and Quality Assurance (VPSE) is a newly created position with primary responsibility to develop a vision, strategy, and structure that provides and supports quality student experiences and student success at Lander.  As such, the VPSE will have broad authority to design, implement, refine, enhance, evaluate, and audit university-wide initiatives that ensure a quality student experience. Reporting directly to the President and serving as a member of the Cabinet, the VPSE leads institutional efforts that coordinate operations and initiatives that increase retention and graduation rates. The VPSE supervises staff positions, oversees high impact student success programs, and sustains processes that bridge Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and other divisions, units, and staff. Strong campus-wide, cross-functional working relationships with key student success stakeholders such as vice presidents, assistant vice presidents, deans, assistant deans, student services directors, advisors, faculty, and staff are essential to the success of the VPSE.

The successful candidate will possess demonstrated effective experience in one or more areas of student success initiatives in higher education (academic advising, tutoring, early alert systems, learning communities, etc.). There is a strong preference for at least three years of leadership experience in an administrative position in higher education with at least two years of supervisory experience. He/she will have experience managing budgets and data analytics along with demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, and team building skills. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
