The University of Missouri (MU) seeks a Social Studies Education scholar and educator to work with internationally recognized faculty in the Department of Learning, Teaching, & Curriculum.  The applicant with an active research agenda or a demonstrated potential for research productivity as well as the potential for success in college teaching and academic program development are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will (a) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Social Studies Education; (b) facilitate school-based field experiences; (c) advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; and (d) collaborate with schools involved in the MU Partnership for Educational Renewal. In addition, the successful candidate must be prepared to carry out a research agenda and to disseminate results in scholarly publications and conferences. The successful candidate will also be expected to secure external funding for research and/or training projects.

The successful applicant will maintain an active research program and demonstrate effectiveness in teaching.  The applicant will also mentor students as well as serve on graduate committees. 

Qualifications: The position requires: (a) a doctorate in Social Studies Education (or related field) received or earned prior to hiring date; (b) PreK-12 social studies teaching experience.

Applicants will be evaluated and ranked based upon: (a) commitment to develop pre- and in-service programs in social studies teacher education; (b) a commitment to conducting research and pursuing external funding, (c) experience with theories and research in social studies education with disciplinary experience in one or more of the following: cultural diversity/citizenship, global education/citizenship, urban education, racial literacy, curriculum theory, teacher education, and/or social justice.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Appointment: Tenure-track, (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor) nine-month appointment beginning September 1, 2022.
