This is a temporary role through the end of May, 2022 with
full University benefits. Schedule is Monday - Friday from
830am-5pm.

Context of the Job:
The University Clinician reports to the Director of the Student
Health Services and is responsible for the delivery of primary
medical care of the equivalent or expected standard of care in the
local community to university students and employees on an
outpatient and inpatient basis. Responsible for working with a
Nurse or other Student Health Service staff to include delegating
appropriate tasks, providing in-service training, and supervision
as required. Primary responsibility will be daily assessment,
diagnosis, treating and prescribing for students presenting with
sick symptoms and need to be screened for COVID 19 and other
illnesses. Responsible for appropriate medical, surgical, dental,
and psychiatric referral as required. Confers with patients,
parents, families and consulting physicians, and University
personnel as appropriate. Responsible for maintaining timely and
accurate medical records. Consults with the Director and their
Assistant Director, Senior Business Administration, Physicians, and
other Health Service staff as appropriate. Responsible for
maintaining medical licensure and professional competence. Must
treat all staff and students with respect and dignity.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for delivery of primary medical care to University students and employees on an outpatient basis, to include performing health assessments and medical treatments, making diagnosis, prescribing and administering pharmaceuticals.
- Daily focus will primarily include the assessment, diagnosing, treating and prescribing for University of Delaware students who present with sick symptoms and need to be screened for COVID-19 among other illnesses. Must be able to tolerate wearing all recommended PPE, including N95 mask and eye protection for length of shift.
- In-Person and Telehealth visits with students in isolation due to COVID-19 or in quarantine due to exposure to COVID positive person
- Utilize laboratory and x-ray facilities appropriately in evaluating the health status of patients.
- Recommend referral of students and employees to medical specialists and other health care facilities for emergency and/or specialized care.
- Responsible for working with Nursing staff and other Health Service personnel, to include delegating appropriate tasks and staff supervision.
- Confers with patients, parents, families and consulting physicians, Health Service staff, and other University personnel on patient management as appropriate.
- Provides medical support for students participating in club sports.
- Maintains timely and accurate medical records using the electronic medical record system provided.
- Maintains medical competence through appropriate continuing medical education courses and affiliations with medical boards and societies as necessary for full, unrestricted medical licensure.
- There will be no on-call or after-hours responsibilities with this role.
- Actively participate in peer reviews, meetings, and committees within Student Health Services as determined by the director
- Work collaboratively with Nurse Practitioners at Student Health Services
- Other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications: Must have one of the
following:
MD or DO as well as NP candidates will be considered.
- M.D. or D.O. degree: Pay Grade 35E
- Unrestricted medical licensure and DEA registration in the State of Delaware.
- Federal DEA registration
- Completion of a medical residency preferred. Board certified or board eligible in a primary care specialty preferred.
- 3 years of clinical medical practice experience post residency
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse:
Pay Grade: 33E
- Eligibility for licensure in Delaware to practice as an Advanced Registered Professional Nurse according to the Delaware Nurse Practice Act with Master's degree in nursing, preferably in primary care or family practice with three to five years' practice in primary care.
- Eligibility for licensure in Delaware to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse according to the Delaware Nurse Practice Act. Eligibility for prescriptive privileges in Delaware.
- DEA registration in the State of Delaware.
- Federal DEA registration
- 3 years of clinical medical practice experience post advance degree completion
Special Requirements:
- Must be able to tolerate wearing all recommended PPE, including N95 mask and eye protection for length of shift.
- Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs.
- Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Successful completion of criminal background check.
Occupational / Environmental Exposures:
- Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and hazardous cleaning chemicals.
