The Division of Physical Therapy within the School of
Kinesiology and Physical Therapy (SKPT) at the University of
Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for an assistant
professor with a focus in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical
therapy. The position is a 9-month, tenure-track faculty
appointment with a projected start date of August 2022.
The Division of Physical Therapy at UCF resides within the College
of Health Professions and Sciences, which is a core component of
the newly-formed UCF Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) along
with the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, UCF Health, UCF
Student Health, and the recent addition of a teaching hospital, the
UCF Lake Nona Medical Center.
The UCF Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program has a
small-to–medium-sized student cohort (<40) and possesses
numerous partnerships involving hospital organizations and
rehabilitation clinics for research and scholarly activity. The
program possesses outstanding student outcomes for licensure pass
rates and scores, substantive involvement in professional duties,

Faculty and student research opportunities exist within the SKPT
Institute of Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation Science, which
possesses numerous basic, applied clinical, and community research

SKPT includes a Division of Physical Therapy, a Division of
Kinesiology, and a graduate Athletic Training program. The Division
of Physical Therapy consists of the DPT program, Graduate
Certificate in Anatomical Sciences, Neurological Residency Program
partnered with Orlando Health and a faculty practice with locations
at UCF Student Health and UCF Athletics. The Division of
Kinesiology includes a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Kinesiology. The
Division of Kinesiology is also developing a Clinical Exercise
Physiology track within its M.S. program.
The successful candidate will be a core faculty member in the UCF
DPT program and contribute to excellence in physical therapy
education through exemplary teaching, research, and
university/professional service to advance the program, college,
and university mission. The candidate will lead instruction in
coursework related to clinical medicine, which includes
cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy and pharmacology in
rehabilitation sciences. The candidate will also contribute to
instruction and collaboration within SKPT’s developing clinical
exercise physiology M.S. track within the Division of Kinesiology,
emphasizing cardiovascular physiology.
Minimum qualifications: An entry-level physical therapy degree from an accredited institution and a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology, Health Science, Rehabilitation Science, or a related field from an accredited institution. An independent line of research is expected to demonstrate strong potential for extramural funding. Applicants must have current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a physical therapist in the state of Florida and an area of contemporary expertise according to professional accreditation guidelines in the clinical practice areas related to cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy.
Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who are board-certified clinical specialists in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists, have experience in the mentorship of physical therapy students, experience as a faculty at a CAPTE-accredited DPT program, postdoctoral experience, or additional expertise in acute care physical therapy.
