The D’Angelo Department of Music at Mercyhurst University (Erie, PA) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Music Education/Vocal/Choral. Candidates should have at least three years of successful teaching experience at the K-12 level and demonstrate evidence of potential for significant scholarly and/or creative work in the music education field. Preference will be given to candidates who also have university teaching experience with a strong voice performance background or experience teaching applied voice. Standard contracts at the university run 9 months (August 15-May 15) with 12-credit hours per semester load. Courses to be taught may include Intro to Music Education, Vocal and Choral Methods, Conducting, Choral Ensemble, Applied Voice, and other courses according to the candidate’s qualifications. Candidates will develop and maintain positive, collaborative relations with area music educators, supervise student teachers, advise undergraduate music education majors and the department NAfME chapter, demonstrate commitment to university service and academic committees, and maintain active recruitment throughout the region and nationally.

 

A Ph.D. is required. Exceptional ABD candidates with a documented plan of completion date prior to start date will be considered. The successful candidate will provide evidence of excellence in teaching and demonstrate the potential for research productivity and/or community engagement. Candidates should be dedicated to teaching undergraduates in our liberal arts core, major, and minor courses.
