Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. The Financial Aid Counselor assists in the planning, organization, and administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs for college students, including grants, scholarships, loans, and student employment. This position also counsels students and families regarding financial aid eligibility and policies, application procedures, aid programs, and indebtedness. The Financial Aid counselor must understand federal, state and institutional financial aid policies and regulations related to aid eligibility, awarding and disbursement.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Counsel prospective and current students and their families with accurate information in all aspects of the aid process;
  • Serve as secondary point of contact for walk-in, email, and phone traffic to Financial Aid Office;
  • Provide virtual support on a wide range of Financial Aid Topics;
  • Collect, review and evaluate student financial aid applications and financial aid forms and documentation;
  • Analyze and process financial aid applications, including file review, needs analysis, and federal verification, and C-code and ISIR reject resolution;
  • Responsible for area(s) of specialization for an internal or external program such as work-study, loans, Pell grants, state aid, or institutional scholarships etc;
  • Oversee and/or complete special projects assigned or directed by the Director of Financial Aid or designee;
  • Participate in events requiring a Financial Aid presence such as Open Houses, Orientations, Financial Aid Workshops, etc., and will occasionally require weekend and/or evening work;
  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge in all aspects of financial aid including changes to federal and state regulations, participating in annual trainings, professional organizations, and conferences to keep abreast of new information and program changes to be implemented;
  • Other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Services, Sociology, or closely related field; with two (2) years experience and/or training involving financial aid operations, or loan processing; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Working knowledge of federal and state aid regulations and policies;
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competency with computerized financial aid applications in a network environment: PeopleSoft experience preferred;
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $47,597.00 - 56,639.00 Annual Salary

Position Type: MCCC-Professional
