Director of Internal Communications

Job Summary:

Marist is seeking a seasoned, self-starting proactive Director of Internal Communications who can tell emotion-provoking stories. This individual will direct and lead college-wide communication strategies including crisis communications, internal communications, reputation management, storytelling, and content creation. This position is responsible for executing and overseeing the writing, editing, and production of crisis and internal communications, as well as optimized content that promotes the Marist brand, strategic initiatives, research, and accomplishments. The ideal candidate will have a “whatever it takes attitude” and be able to quickly develop compelling content and collaborate with team members to implement it across all mediums. This position may include some hybrid/remote flexibility but will be primarily campus-based in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated track record of content creation, internal communications, and crisis communications
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of related work experience, including five years of experience managing crisis and internal communications
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; flawless editing to support clear ideas
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, media relations, or public relations; Masters preferred
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Self-starter who thrives in ambiguous environments and adapts easily to change
  • Able to work under pressure quickly, effectively, and efficiently
Essential Functions:
  • Collaborates with the President’s and Operations Offices on internal communications for all constituents including faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and students
  • Responsible for identifying and proactively monitoring all mediums for potential crises or issues
  • Lead crisis communication planning and rapid response messaging to deal with critical events and advises on timely strategies and responses
  • Execute the development of content creation of stories from students, faculty, staff, and alumni from conception to completion for distribution across all digital platforms in partnership with the Director of Marketing and Director of Media Relations including our website, social media, and to local, regional and national media
  • Lead regular meetings with campus editorial content creators to share stories collaboratively for optimized dissemination across campus publications
  • Plan content calendar and proactively identify opportunities for strategic content development through regular engagement with key faculty and staff across the College
  • All other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in English, journalism, communications or public relations
