The Mechanical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle, invites candidates to apply for a full-time tenured faculty position at the (full) professor level. This position is on a 9 month service period with an anticipated start date of September 16, 2022. This senior position is expected to continue earning international recognition in their field of research and to begin leading major national center-level activities immediately.

This position is expected to specialize in energy, including but not limited to renewable energy and materials for energy conversion and storage. Please note that excellence in research, as clearly identified by international recognition and leadership, is more important than the specific area of sub-specialization

This position will lead a highly interdisciplinary research effort in close collaboration with various entities and researchers both on and off campus. These include the Clean Energy Institute, the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and the Northwest Institute for Materials Physics, Chemistry, and Technology (NW IMPACT). Specifically, the position will work closely with researchers from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to strengthen existing significant collaborations and to further build on and expand these into new areas.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide innovative, high-quality teaching; to develop a vigorous, externally-funded research program; and to contribute to the goals and missions of the department, college, and university

This position will contribute to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives and activities, as well as to an innovative undergraduate curriculum, and graduate courses in their areas of expertise.

The Mechanical Engineering department’s research and teaching portfolio covers all aspects of the broad field of mechanical engineering, including interdisciplinary work in engineering in medicine, robotics and controls, materials, advanced manufacturing, and alternative energy. The department currently has 39 full-time tenured, tenure track, research and teaching faculty, 372 undergraduates, 160 Master’s students, 110 PhD students and 17 postdoctoral researchers and continues to grow.
