In an effort to maintain and ensure greater congruency, consistency, and continuity across competencies and dimensions of learning, and in order to maintain the integrity of its model of education, Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) seeks an assistant professor of business with a specific administrative portfolio to foster the development of fully integrated transdisciplinary curricula.

Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) is a unique and vibrant learning institution.  It is a non-profit, regionally accredited college offering associate’s, bachelor's, and master's degrees, with state-of-the art campuses in the Financial District of Manhattan and the South Bronx hub district.   MCNY’s academic and social justice mission aims to prepare students for professional success and empower them to deliver positive change to their communities and workplaces. 

This grant-funded faculty position will play an important role in working with faculty and staff to assure the optimal alignment of MCNY’s unique curriculum, Purpose-Centered Education (PCE).  PCE was developed to provide students with a powerful integration of theory and practice each semester.  It features courses that provide the theoretical underpinnings of the main competency for each semester. Each semester, students complete a culminating project, called a Constructive Action, that integrates the knowledge gained that semester into a project that aims to improve programs or services at their workplaces or internship sites.  When appropriate, available and possible, students’ field placements in businesses are an important element of the college’s business programs.  As the college has grown, and as student attendance patterns have changed, it has been a challenge to assure the appropriate scheduling and alignment of courses for every student, and to obtain and support appropriate field placements.  As the administrative component of this position, which comprises 50% of the position’s responsibilities, this position will work with faculty and staff to design course schedules that enable the alignment of courses with each’s semester’s competency, and to help assure appropriate and available field placements.


The individual filling this position will

  • be a full-time member of the faculty of the college’s School for Business,
  • be assigned to two course sections every term,
  • seek out and develop opportunities for appropriate field placements,
  • nurture a closer relationship between instructors and field supervisors,
  • improve the quality of field assessments and observations,
  • ensure that all of the courses within each term of a degree program are coordinated,
  • ensure the integrity and coherence of all of the terms within a degree program,
  • join with program directors and other full-time members of the faculty in developing, governing and implementing the college’s business degree programs,
  • participate in activities related to the recruitment of new students and the retention of currently enrolled students,
  • advise currently enrolled students regarding their plans for their educations and careers, and
  • actively engage in the continuing development of the School for Business.




  • Familiarity with and a commitment to the college’s model of education
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice
  • Experience working with students and citizens from the communities served by the college – particularly individuals of color and adult students
  • Experience in guiding students to use their knowledge and skills to achieve a purpose that makes a positive difference in their lives and the lives of others
  • Experience working with the types of businesses that provide appropriate field placements for the college’s students
  • Proven skills as a teacher
  • Proven skills as a trainer and facilitator of teachers
  • Knowledge of the bodies of knowledge and theory represented in the college’s business programs.
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary or transdisciplinary approaches to business education
  • A doctoral degree in a business discipline is preferred; master’s degrees may be considered
