Job Summary

Assist writers from all disciplines with grammar, writing, speech, and various self-paced materials in the Writing Center. Perform special projects. Other tasks might include answering the Grammar Hotline, responding to Online Writing Lab (OWL) submissions, rectifying software issues, fill in at reception desk. This job requires professional development, including attendance at weekly training sessions or other scheduled meetings, written reflections, research, presentation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Completion of Composition 1 and Composition 2 with B or better (JCCC Preferred)
Two years tutoring or teaching experience, with minimum of one year in a college Writing Center
Good communications skills, including listening with patience and understanding
Demonstration of excellent grammar and writing skills with the ability to explain concepts, provide example in both oral and written form
Ability to learn and utilize effective tutoring techniques following bets practices
Must be able to help with computer and standard office equipment
Proficient with technology. Must have tutor experience
College Reading and Language Association certification (CRLA), level 1 certified preferred
