Job Description:

The Academic Program Lead (APL)for computer science is an integral member of Clark's School of Professional Studies administrative and academic team, this position works closely with the dean's office on academic and student matters involving the MS in Computer Science and our undergraduate work in applied computer science. The APL will be responsible for the academic oversight and direction of the MS in Computer Science and will provide assistance in the planning and oversight of SPS Undergraduate computer-based courses and programs. In addition, this position is responsible for managing the program and course schedule, evaluation and hiring of academically qualified faculty, and providing academic oversight for the degree programs.  As the MS in Computer Science is done in partnership with the Department of Computer Science within Clark's Arts and Science Program, this individual will also be the unit's point person for the coordination and management of the MOU governing the program.

The APL will be responsible for the evaluation and admission of qualified applicants in conjunction with the office of graduate enrollment management.  The APL will also participate in events such as new student admission days, student orientation, capstone evaluation and SPS open house.  Occasional student recruitment will include face-to-face meetings and follow up calls with prospective students. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate high level of content specialization, attention to detail, experience managing competing priorities, and excellent organizational skills.  The individual should be comfortable serving in a high profile academic lead role within an entrepreneurial market-facing unit. In addition, the successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

 

  • Act as the point person through application submission to onboarding of students within the degree programs.
  • Responsible for managing course schedules, identifying and resolving student and faculty issues, and communicating with faculty, students, and other academic units on campus.
  • Identify qualified contingent faculty to teach courses.
  • Teaches three courses annually in the MS CS degree program.
  • Act as the point person with the Computer Science Department in Arts and Sciences.
  • Ensure the student experience from the recruitment and admissions process, advising and degree completion is managed in a professional and high-quality student-focused fashion.
  • Core to the work, a successful candidate will meet each established student cohort milestones (recruitment numbers, retention rates etc.) as well as provide part-time faculty leadership and oversight. They must be able to manage and coordinate amongst academic and administrative support staff. 

Requirements:

  • Relevant master's degree required; doctorate preferred. (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Math etc.).
  • Minimum 3-5 experience in teaching, academic administration or managing a computer science program.
  • Strong analytical skills to discern key information, grasp potential ramifications, eliminate obstacles and proactively and creatively problem solve.
  • Ability to gather data, draw conclusions and make effective recommendations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills; demonstrated ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders (students, faculty, administrators).
  • Skills in course planning, academic policy interpretation and public speaking.
  • Ability to maintain focus on priorities while multitasking. Adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • High degree of personal ownership and accountability.
  • High degree of comfort working with diverse student and faculty populations from multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; attention to detail; ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
