VCU HR has an exciting opportunity for an HR Generalist to join our team!

Summary

The HR Generalist will be a member of the HR Services Team, a group that provides HR support to VCU client groups, as well as the functional teams within VCU HR. The Generalist will provide highly skilled technical expertise in the administration of HR processes and serves as the first point of contact for HR related inquiries for assigned client groups. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide effective consultation, review, and approval of hiring and compensation actions for assigned clients
  • Provide guidance related to policies, such as FMLA, leave administration, talent acquisition and on-boarding, and performance management
  • Provide suggestions for process improvement and work to streamline processes to create efficiencies
  • Create unified and consistent messaging to promote VCU HR as a strategic university partner
  • Analyze data to identify recruitment trends and opportunities to improve recruitment and hiring processes
  • Conduct training and participate in special projects
  • Assist and backup the HR Business Partners as needed
Within HR, the Generalist will have opportunities to work with and support initiatives related to employment, compensation, HR Services, and benefits.

This position will also provide HR and analytics support to the VCU compensation team within the central human resources office. Duties may include:
  • Perform analytical and project support such as: market pricing, technical reporting and analytics, and integration support
  • Prepare routine compensation reports and analysis
  • Prepare and maintain job classifications and salary scales; partner with HRIS and Technology Services to update market pay ranges, job summary tool, and master job sheet
  • Prepare and present summary reports of job analysis and compensation analysis information
  • Complete compensation survey
  • Gather data from market-based compensation surveys; use spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess results and market trends
  • Evaluate and implement job analysis instruments and materials, with the assistance of the HR Compensation Program Manager

Minimum hiring standards:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field and 3-5 years of HR Generalist or HRA experience
  • Considerable knowledge of federal and state compensation, employment, and benefits laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of HR management and workforce planning principles and practices, specifically compensation, employment, and benefits
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as part of a collaborative team
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing, with employees of various levels within the organization, and people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and draw sound, reliable conclusions
  • Ability to interpret and explain HR policies and procedures, as well as the technical and administrative features of benefits programs
  • Excellent skills with MS Office suite and Google applications; ability to use or learn to use more complex excel/google sheet functions
  • Deep knowledge of HR processes and systems
  • Excellent planning, time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in Human Resources or other field requiring the handling of sensitive and confidential information
  • Experience with HRIS or other information systems
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred hiring standards:
  • Experience with HRIS or other information systems
  • Familiarity with the higher education environment
  • PHR, SPHR, or CCP certification
Salary Range: $48,000 to $58,000
