The Purdue University Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE) program is a collaboration between the College of Education (CoE) and the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS). The program focuses on undergraduate teacher education; students matriculate and receive their B.S. degree from the Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) within HHS. Curriculum approval and student advising are through HDFS, while program administration, pedagogical instruction, and student teaching supervision are by FCSE staff in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction (EDCI) within the CoE. The program, which began in 1909 as one of the University’s first three teacher education programs, has a legacy of state leadership and a strong alumni base. Position

This FCSE Clinical Open Rank Professor position is a full-time, academic-year position beginning in August 2022. It is a joint faculty position with 60% effort in CoE and 40% effort in HHS. This position is a three-year appointment with the possibility of re-appointment. The position is non-tenure track with full faculty status, benefits, and opportunities for promotion.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will serve as FCSE Program Coordinator. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide overall leadership, management, and implementation for the FCSE Program.
  • Coordinate FCSE Program design and implementation in alignment with standards for Indiana teacher licensure and program accreditation.
  • Teach and/or oversee FCSE-specific teacher-education courses. Serve as head university supervisor for FCSE student teaching. Select and supervise additional staff as needed.
  • Teach content-specific courses.
  • Develop and lead student-recruitment initiatives, in collaboration with recruiters for Purdue Teacher Education and HSS and with FCSE leaders in Indiana and professional organizations.
  • Provide academic advising, support, and FCS/Career Technical Education (CTE) pedagogical coursework for FCSE post-baccalaureate licensure students, in collaboration with the Indiana Department of Education.
  • Collaborate with faculty and undergraduate academic advisors in HDFS.
  • Serve as a primary information dissemination point for Indiana FCS teachers.
  • Serve as advisor for the Purdue Student Unit of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Indiana Affiliate. Facilitate linkages with professional organizations and with the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America student organization.

 

Qualifications:  PhD or EdD degree in Education, Family Consumer Science (FCS), FCS Content or related field and three years teaching experience in FCS and current or previous secondary FCS licensure required. A record of leadership experience and professional involvement strongly preferred. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education through their scholarship, teaching, and/or engagement.
