Augusta University seeks an innovative professional based in the Office of Senior Vice President of Research to help achieve research goals that enhance the academic research profile and infrastructure of the University, as outlined in the University's strategic plan.

Efforts will include those directed towards clinical and translational research programs at Augusta University, which include three key areas that disproportionately affect the health of Georgians: cancer, cardiometabolic disease, and neurological disease including stroke. The university is also developing three emerging areas of research strength: regenerative & reparative medicine; personalized medicine & genomics, and public and preventive health.

Augusta, Georgia is the second-largest metro area in Georgia and is located on the southern bank of the Savannah River midway between the Great Smokey Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. It is a growing and thriving city with a metropolitan area and recently ranked second in Georgia for Best Places to Live. Money Magazine recently named nearby Evans, GA as the “Best Place to Live in America Right Now”.

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President for Research, this position coordinates daily operations of the Office of Senior Vice President for Research, develops and executes an enterprise- wide research strategic and operational plans, and leads enterprise-wide research projects to facilitate the ability of AU investigators at all ten AU Colleges (including Research Centers and Institutes) to conduct research. Thus, this individual serves as the critical hub for the integration of efforts and initiatives the units within the Sr. Vice President’s Offices, as well as coordinating interfaces throughout the AU Enterprise, as well as efforts involving the Augusta University Health System. This person provides strategic leadership, business planning and modeling, marketing to current and potential users, and provide long-range planning support, which will prepare AU to be competitive for funding such as from the NCI for a Comprehensive Cancer Center, and for NIH Clinical and Translational Science (CTSA) grant program. Additionally, this position will manage research special projects as requested. Required qualifications include a master’s degree, significant and appropriate experience in an office of research, including increasingly complex responsibility in a leadership position; and ability to interface with all aspects of the research enterprise.
