Position Summary:

The Department of Health and Sport Science is a growing, successful department at the University of Dayton, in Dayton, OH. With over 700 students across 4 undergraduate majors and one graduate dietetics program, we collectively seek to train and inspire future leaders in health, wellness, and sport. Over 400 students are Health Science majors who primarily pursue graduate programs such as medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing. We are looking for an engaged, dedicated, and innovative faculty member to join our student-centered team.

We currently are seeking applications for a full-time instructionally-focused faculty colleague. Our lecturers contribute fully to our academic mission through their primary work in teaching courses and service to students, the department, and the university. We encourage and support the development of lecturers and provide opportunities for promotion and access to professional opportunities on- and off-campus.

The position will start August 16, 2022 and is a non tenure track position that is renewable annually. Some summer teaching opportunities may be available depending on department needs. The ideal candidate is expected to contribute to one or more areas in our core health science curriculum that covers anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, kinesiology, and corresponding laboratory courses. Specific teaching responsibilities will be determined based on candidate specialization, interest, and balance of lecture and laboratory courses in collaboration with the department chair and existing faculty.

Minimum Qualifications:

● Master’s degree in anatomy, physiology, exercise science, kinesiology, science education, or related field;
● Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level;
● Effective written communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

● PhD or EdD in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, science education or related field;
● Successful experience in any or all of the following:
-working with students in a non-classroom setting (e.g. laboratory, advising, mentoring)
-utilizing laboratory skills related to area of expertise (e.g. cadaver-based dissection, exercise testing, motion analysis)
-as Instructor of Record in a lecture- and/or laboratory- based course.
-working with and/or teaching socially and culturally diverse communities.
-working in the health professional career fields;
● Interest and willingness to serve, lead, and/or collaborate within a department and/or broader university community;
● Ability to model excellence in teaching, to foster a stimulating classroom environment and to challenge students in creative ways;
● Effective interpersonal communication skills;
● Effective oral communication skills;
● Effective classroom management skills;
● Commitment to breadth of education, including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition to support the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession
