Position Summary:
The Department of Art & Design invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, benefits eligible Assistant Professor of Practice specializing in Art Education for one year with the possibility of renewal. The candidate hired for this position will teach four undergraduate courses per semester. Position begins August 16, 2022.
The Department of Art & Design and the Art Education program support future art educators in finding their voice at the juncture of art theory and practice, as artists, makers, and researchers. Undergraduates are encouraged to build connections among the arts and our local community through degree offerings, experiential learning opportunities and research opportunities. We seek faculty members who are committed to reimagining art education toward social justice by offering individualized instruction, academic advising and professional mentoring for a changing art education landscape.

Minimum Qualifications:
- MA in Art Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or Educational Leadership or related field.
- Ability to teach a variety of art materials and techniques.
- Three years of experience as a certified teacher in K-12, community or museum-based settings.
- Potential for excellence in teaching.
- Familiarity with current trends in art education and challenges facing the field of teacher preparation.
- Effective written communication skills.
While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
- ABD, with expected completion before August 16, 2022, in Art Education or Ph.D. in Art Education.
- Successful experience in any or all of the following:
--leading, developing, and/or implementing art education programs within museum and/or community based settings.
--using integrative teaching methods.
--supervising student teaching practicum
--mentoring or working with and/or teaching socially and culturally diverse communities.
--working collaboratively with diverse faculty and staff - Ability to model excellence in teaching, to foster a stimulating classroom environment and to challenge students in creative ways.
- Effective oral communication skills.
- Effective presentation skills.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Commitment to active involvement with state and/or national education professional organizations.
- Effective classroom management skills.
- Engagement with the practice and pursuit of social justice, which reflects the Catholic, Marianist mission of the university.
