Ensure that equipment and facilities are in good working order and provide high-quality technical services in support of curricular projects. The Electronic Maintenance Technician shares responsibility for the daily maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and media production facilities within Emerson College.

Your Team: Technical Operations team within Emerson College's Media Technologies and Production (MTP) department contains a five-person engineering staff. The MTP sits under the College area of IT

The Clients You Support: the students, faculty, and staff of Emerson College by maintaining and providing support services to the College's media production equipment and facilities.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Assistant Manager, Electronic Maintenance and the Manager, Design and Integration with daily technical maintenance and troubleshooting of all Media Technologies and Production facilities, with a focus on the Equipment Distribution Center, but also including the Tufte PPC Television Facility, the Journalism Production Center, The Emerson Channel, Emerson Channel Sports, the Paramount Sound Stage and Post Production Facilities.
  • ​Perform repairs and coordinate external repair for equipment housed within the Equipment Distribution Center (digital cameras, lenses, tripods, lighting equipment, microphones, audio recorders, etc.)
  • Assist with new equipment installation and integration, including cable fabrication and cable management.


Your Qualifications:
  • 2-5 years of experience maintaining and servicing media production equipment
  • Strong understanding of audio and video signal measurement and standards
  • Intermediate understanding of computer networking
  • Intermediate understanding of codecs and post production
  • Basic understanding of control room production technologies and process
  • Ability to read, produce, and maintain system and wiring documentation with AutoCAD/Vizio/etc.
  • Must know how to fabricate and repair common cables and connectors (BNC, XLR, RJ45, etc)
  • Must be responsible, detail-oriented and improvise quick solutions.
  • Intermediate to high level troubleshooting skills and testing methodology.


You'll be preferred if you have:
  • Proficient with electronics repair equipment such as soldering irons, DMM, analyzers and power tools.
  • Experience installing and integrating equipment into racks, wiring, labeling, documentation, and testing signal flow as designed.
  • Versed in CAD, schematics and signal flow charts.
  • Familiarity with professional color standards.
  • WebCheckout or similar equipment scheduling and ticketing software.
  • Affiliation with professional groups such as SMPTE, SBE, etc.


Work Environment:
  • Maintenance shop with lack of windows.
  • Use of chemicals common to electronic equipment maintenance and repair (epoxies, lubricants, solvents, soldering flux, etc.).
  • Duties include frequent moving and lifting of heavy objects as well as working in confined spaces and difficult physical positions or bodily contortions.


Please note: Additional compensation available based upon skills and experience.

Grade of Position: T01N

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Hiring Range: $24,999.98 - $26,166.67
