The Pennsylvania State University Libraries seek a creative and service-oriented Communications and Business Liaison Librarian for a tenure-track faculty position, serving as the subject specialist and liaison for the Departments of Advertising/Public Relations and Telecommunications in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications (https://www.bellisario.psu.edu/ ). This librarian will also support the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minor in the College. In addition, this librarian will assist with the unit's work with foundational business courses. Successful candidates will benefit from the strong mentoring program developed by the University Libraries to support new faculty in tenure-track appointments in fulfilling expectations in the areas of librarianship, research, and service. Responsibilities: The Communications and Business Liaison Librarian serves with a team of six other subject specialists in related fields, reports to the Head of the Schreyer Business Library, and is responsible for Advertising, Public Relations, Telecommunications, and related subject areas in the following categories:
  • Liaison activities with assigned academic units and centers: Participate in the intellectual life and operations of assigned academic units; engage with faculty and students as a colleague in both disciplinary activities and in library services; and serve as liaison to centers affiliated with assigned academic units.
  • Teaching, learning and literacies: Design and deliver a program of library instruction (including the development of online library guides and tutorials) that supports the curriculum of liaison academic units.
  • Reference and research: Provide reference assistance and research consulting (both face-to-face and online) for subject-specific research at all levels.
  • Collections content and access: Build, maintain, and assess collections in all media and formats to support research and teaching in assigned academic units. Collaborate and coordinate with librarians in related subject areas and libraries, including Commonwealth Campus Libraries (CCLs) and peers through the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA).
  • Scholarly communications: Participate in initiatives involving professional efforts for open access, digital publishing, copyright, and digital curation.
  • Research and Service: Engage in research, scholarly publication, and professional service activities in areas appropriate to academic librarianship and the disciplines served.


Required Qualifications: Requires a Masters of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent); ability to work independently and collaboratively; an ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population and to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, respect, and inclusion; potential to achieve the requirements for tenure and promotion in the areas of librarianship, research, and service; excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Relevant experience at an academic, special, or research library; undergraduate degree or coursework and/or graduate degree in advertising, business, public relations, telecommunications, or a related field; knowledge of business information sources; and experience working with databases in advertising and related fields.

Compensation and Rank: Tenure-track faculty position, with rank and salary dependent upon qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include liberal vacation, excellent insurance and health care coverage, state or TIAA retirement options, and educational privileges. In addition, faculty in the University Libraries are afforded funds for professional development travel annually. Faculty may be asked to travel as official representatives of the Libraries to certain events and those trips are reimbursed at full cost within limits established by the University.
