Responsibilities:

I’m looking for a collaborator, interlocutor, and writer who can assist in the drafting and editing of essays, speeches, op-eds, and tweet threads on issues in contemporary political economy. Topics include antimonopoly policy, tax policy, guaranteed income policy, and financial regulation. Some editing of a book manuscript on the history of central banking may also be required. 

The writer will need to to write in an accessible manner about technical economic, policy, and political matters. S/he will often be in a “translator” role focused on helping non-experts understand academic and technical jargon. 

The writer will need to engage in dialogue and debate about contemporary issues in political economy and then use these conversations as the basis for drafting essays, speeches, op-eds, email newsletters, and tweet threads on related topics. The writer will be responsible for reading widely and pulling key clips daily. 

This is a full-time role based in New York city with some recurring in-person meetings required.

 

Qualifications 

*Masters or PhD in economics, history, or political science; OR 2+ years experience as a journalist or researcher in politics or economics 

*Deep knowledge of contemporary political economy and 20th-century economic history with a preference for expertise in the history of monetary policy and the history of neoliberalism *Strong sense of initiative and ability to work independently 

*Ability to write precisely and concisely with sparing use of jargon 

*An adept communicator who enjoys intellectual debate and sparring 

*Experience with social media, particularly Twitter, helpful
