    Department Summary
    The Division of Student Life supports the university's academic mission through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. The Division is comprised of 5 departments: University Career Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Erb Memorial Union, the Department of Physical Education and Recreation, as well as staff in the Vice President for Student Life (VPSL) Office.

    Position Summary
    The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of Financial Services and oversees the day-to-day transactional work of the Division's shared services business operations team. This position is integral to the fiscal management and financial operations of several units within the Division of Student Life and is responsible for supervising several key members of the team.

    The Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating the daily deposit and reconciliation process, ensuring interpretation, implementation, and compliance with University fiscal policies and generally accepted accounting practices, and managing the flow of work and requests into the service center. This position will also be responsible for assisting with all forecasting/budgeting processes, presenting financial information to several levels of management within the organization. The Assistant Director must become knowledgeable enough to back up any of the transactional staff and will be responsible to cross-train staff so that the Financial Services hub can operate effectively at all times.

    Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, or related field; OR an equivalent combination of skills and experience
  • Three years progressively responsible experience in any combination of accounting, finance, budget and automated field systems
  • One year of supervisory experience

    Professional Competencies
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to provide leadership in a team environment
  • Expertise in using applications and databases (such as Excel, Banner, Cognos, PowerPoint, etc.) to compile and present reports
  • Expertise in contract negotiation and management
  • Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working with faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds in support of an inclusive and multiculturally competent environment

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience with Banner Finance products
