Department Summary
The Department of Psychology at the University of Oregon offers undergraduate major and minor degrees in psychology, and graduate degrees at the Master's and PhD levels. Our undergraduate program provides education and training to over 1,200 majors who aspire to careers in research, mental health care, business, education, and many other fields. Undergraduate research, practica, and other experiential learning activities are vital components of the major.

Position Summary
The Department of Psychology seeks applications for a Pro Tem Instructor position with expertise in teaching research methods and scientific critical thinking. Teaching responsibilities will include, but are not limited to Scientific Thinking (PSY 301), a large lecture course that is required of psychology majors and serves university-wide core education requirements; and Research Methods (PSY 303), a project-based laboratory class for psychology majors. The instructor will also serve as Research Methods coordinator, developing and reviewing curriculum and supervising graduate employee instructors who teach that course. The instructor may have the opportunity to teach other courses depending on interests and department needs. This is a one-year position with a possibility of renewal contingent on funding.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master's in Psychology, or a terminal degree in a related field

  • Expertise in research methods in psychological science
  • Ability to deliver inclusive, engaged, and research-led teaching at the college level
  • Ability to contribute to institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Competency in supervising graduate employee instructors
  • Competency in pedagogy and curriculum development

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Psychology or a terminal degree in a related field
  • Experience teaching at the college level
  • Experience supervising graduate employee instructors
  • Expertise in pedagogy and curriculum development
