ESL/Dual Language Instructional Assistant

Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. The goal of the position of ESL/Dual Language Instructional Assistant is to optimize early childhood education student success by providing assistance to course instructors and supports for students, especially English language learners. Because the levels of English fluency and writing and reading skills vary widely in the early childhood education workforce, differentiated resources are needed to enable practitioners to begin post-secondary education and ascend the career ladder for their field.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Support students enrolled in Career Pathways Grant-funded classes, collaborating with classroom instructors in face-to-face, remote and online classes;
  • Support sessions for small groups and individuals will be scheduled during non-class hours to assist students in mastering course content and completing assignments;
  • Although English language learners are the priority, the instructional assistant will be available to any student funded by the Grant.

This is a grant-funded position. The grant term ends on June 30, 2022.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience as an ESL instructor or an Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education; If not an ESL instructor, fluency in Portuguese preferred and competent writing and reading skills in English;
  • Knowledge of community college academic programs, services, and culture;
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse, multicultural, and non-traditional students;
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication and presentation skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
  • Ability to work flexible hours that include evenings;

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $30 per hour,18 hours per week for 30 weeks

Position Type: PT - Seasonal/ Temporary
