Job Summary:

The School of Science at Marist College is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Biology with a specialty in botany, including plant physiology, beginning August 2022. The Biology Department’s academic mission is immeasurably enriched by an inclusive community in which diverse perspectives are respected and valued. The Biology Department seeks faculty committed to undergraduate teaching excellence at a comprehensive liberal arts institution that supports both liberal arts and professional programs. Candidates will develop and maintain a strong research program involving undergraduates. Service to the College and beyond is also required. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field and a strong interest in evidence-based undergraduate science education. Strong preference will be given to candidates who are enthusiastic about and have potential for obtaining external research funding. The successful candidate should have expertise in botany, including plant physiology, and the interest and ability to teach introductory and upper division courses for majors as well as courses that support the College Core (general education) Curriculum. Prior teaching experience is desirable; however, candidates with promise and enthusiasm for becoming a skilled teacher are strongly encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field is required. Enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates and evidence of excellent teaching or potential to develop into an excellent teacher, desire and ability to develop research program involving undergraduates, and a strong interest and potential for seeking externally funded research grants is also required.

Essential Functions:
  • Teach undergraduate coursework in Biology, including lectures and lab
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment
  • Develop a research program appropriate to undergraduate institution and mentor undergraduate research
  • Perform service to department, school, college and community as necessary
Preferred Qualifications:

Prior undergraduate college teaching experience, a demonstrated potential for obtaining externally funded grants, and at least one year of postdoctoral experience is preferred.

The Biology Department is located in the Allied Health Building, a 58,000 ft2 facility constructed in 2016 for Biology and allied health graduate and undergraduate programs. It features modern laboratories and facilities in addition to updated instrumentation for teaching and research.
