Historian of Great Britain and the British Empire

The Department of History and Foreign Languages in Jacksonville State University’s College of Arts and Humanities invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of History specializing in Great Britain and the British Empire. The department is seeking to hire a faculty member with broad training in British History with a focus or sub-field in British Empire in the Middle East, Africa, or the Caribbean. Experience with digital humanities and the classroom are a benefit but not required. Candidates with other sub-specialties are welcome to apply.

JSU is a dynamic and growing regional university that serves a varied student body. Primarily a teaching institution, JSU faculty carry a 4-4 load, and normally a 2-2 prep. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the surveys of Western Civilization or World History according to their training, preference, and the needs of the department each semester and one upper division course in their area of expertise at the undergraduate or graduate level. Scholarship is expected, encouraged, and supported.

Cover letters should discuss the applicant’s ability to teach a diverse group of students while creating an inclusive classroom that supports JSU’s tradition of being the “friendliest campus in the South.”   The appointment will begin in August 2022. A PhD is expected prior to appointment.
