The Department of Special Education at Illinois State University in Normal, IL invites applications for one tenure-track position to be filled at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the area of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH). Our DHH program is among the largest undergraduate programs in the country and has a comprehensive philosophy. Illinois State University is a large public university with state and national recognition and was reported by College Factual as the #1 special education teacher preparation program in the nation. In addition to licensure in DHH, we offer an undergraduate program leading to licensure in learning and behavior specialist (LBS) and low vision/blindness (LVB). Our department also offers Master's and Doctoral programs in special education. The Department seeks a balanced professional life where contributions in teaching, research, and service are valued.

Position: This tenure-track position, to start on August 16, 2022, is a nine-month position with the opportunity for summer employment. Responsibilities may include teaching courses in the DHH sequence as well as other special education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; supervising students in clinical settings; conducting, disseminating, and supervising research; and providing university and professional service. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications

  1. Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in deaf education or a related field with expertise in DHH (ABD will be considered).
  2. Applicants must have at least 3 years of teaching and/or providing direct services for DHH individuals.
  3. All work for this position must be completed within the state of Illinois.
  4. State law mandates demonstrable proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.
