The Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo offers undergraduate programs in Systems Design Engineering and Biomedical Engineering and is a partner in the Mechatronics Engineering program.  The programs are highly interdisciplinary, with emphases on analysis, design, and creativity.  The support of our programs requires unique, talented educators who are passionate about teaching and learning.  The department is committed to providing an outstanding educational experience for its undergraduate students, leading these students to become engineering practitioners, researchers, and entrepreneurs. 

The department seeks applications for a faculty position at the rank of Lecturer.  The initial appointment is for three years, renewable for another three, and it is expected that candidates demonstrating outstanding performance will be considered for promotion to appointment as Continuing Lecturer. The lecturer is expected to have multi-disciplinary expertise, someone who can comfortably teach many of the engineering fundamentals courses in our undergraduate curriculum, including courses in circuit, programming, data structures and algorithms and digital systems to Systems Design and Biomedical engineering students.  Candidates must hold a PhD degree in engineering, computer science or a related discipline, and must be eligible for registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario and commit to registering within three years.

Besides assigned teaching tasks, the successful candidate will mentor undergraduate students in the first-year program, helping students with the crucial transition from high school to a co-operative university education, and providing a friendly, helpful, respected point of contact with the department. This position requires a willingness to be involved in student outreach activities, an interest in engaging with students to help them to improve their learning strategies and to realize their full potential. The successful candidate must have strong communication and teamwork skills with commitment to professional development and community building.  The expected teaching load is 6 courses per year. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated exceptional teaching skills and a diversity of experience. 

Review of applications will begin upon receipt; however, to ensure full consideration, applications must be received by January 17, 2022.  Three letters of reference will be requested for applicants invited for an interview.  The salary range for this lecturer position is $85,000 to $125,000, depending on experience.  Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.  All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents will be given priority.   The appointment has a preferred starting date of July 1, 2022.
