Position Summary:
The Phifer-Rixey Lab at Monmouth University is seeking applications for a temporary Postdoctoral Researcher in the Biology Department, which is part of the School of Science. The lab is engaged with a variety of integrative projects investigating evolutionary genetics in wild populations.

The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Phifer-Rixey to lead NSF-funded research combining field, bench, and computational approaches to investigate urbanization in house mice. In addition, the postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to gain classroom, mentoring, and outreach experience and to contribute to pedagogical research. Beyond research activities, the successful candidate will contribute to the formal dissemination of results including conference presentations and publications. Significant travel is required.

This is a grant funded position, continuation after the first year is based on availability of funds and performance.

Required Degree, License or Certifications:
Doctoral degree, ABD candidates may be considered with degree completion expected by date of employment

Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills

Required Years of Experience:

Other Requirements:
PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Biology or a related field. Experience with field and/or laboratory research.

Ability to work independently in the field. Ability to travel; significant travel is required in the first year of the project and additional travel may be needed in later years.

Ability to work extended periods when sampling in the field. Ability to lift 30 pounds repeatedly.

Ability to organize and coordinate a sampling and data collection program. Ability to complete all required training for research with human subjects and with animals. Interest in teaching and/or outreach engagement.



Preferred Qualifications:
Strong research record in evolutionary biology or a related field.

Experience with trapping and/or handling wild or laboratory animals, extraction of DNA and RNA from a variety of tissues and sample types; preparation of next-generation sequencing libraries, processing and analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, and/or metabarcoding/microbiome data; command line interface and a relevant programming language (for example Python, Perl, R) for evolutionary analyses.
