Position Summary:
Monmouth University is seeking applications for a Director/Chief of Police.

The candidate would be expected to: implement a community policing, community engagement and student development approach to campus safety; oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling of all departmental personnel including patrol officers, safety officers, traffic attendants, and support personnel; assure coordination of leadership and serve as liaison with local, county, state and federal agencies as needed; develop and establish departmental standards, policies and procedures, including the Police Manual and Collective Bargaining Agreements, rules and regulations, vehicle registration, and traffic management, build access, research, record maintenance, criminal investigation, recruit, staff and promotions, accident and safety matters, with the support and direct participation of those reporting to the Director/Chief.

Required Degree, License or Certifications:
Bachelor's degree, Valid Automobile Driver's License in your state of principal residence

Required Skills or Software:
Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks, Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately

Other Requirements:
Current New Jersey Basic Course for Police Officer Certificate (formerly known as NJ Class A Certificate). Ten years of progressively responsible supervisory experience at the rank of Sergeant or higher. Three years’ experience with police administrative responsibilities. Demonstrated knowledge of current operational principles and police administration.

Ability to respond to call-ins and work additional hours as needed. Must have experience handling disciplinary and promotional matters and grievance procedures. Must have demonstrable experience in “community policing” and community engagement. Commitment to the positive growth and development of young people.

Preferred Qualifications:
Employment experience at a leadership level at a college or university.
