ATTENTION:

The Department of Instructional, Communication, and Information Technology (ICIT) at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks an IT Policy, Compliance, and Governance Specialist (Service Coordinator II, IT034).

Academic staff positions are provided fixed term appointments with annual renewals unless otherwise noted. Reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon performance, university funding and external forces.

JOB DETAILS:

This position manages compliance with University of Wisconsin System Information Security and Information Technology policies, development and implementation of campus practice directives, and governance relations for the Division of Instructional, Communication and Information Technology (ICIT). This position is responsible for understanding these policies and procedures, recommending to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), developing and executing processes to assure compliance, communicating updates and revisions to ICIT management team, and campus governance groups. The incumbent follows appropriate departmental communication practices and works collaboratively with the CIO and ICIT management team to develop effective communication regarding information security and technology policy updates to all university constituents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3 years’ experience as a compliance specialist/manager
  • 3 years’ experience in Information Security or Information Technology
  • BA/BS in a business-related or information technology field and/or equivalent years of education and experience working in a related field
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience with IT audits
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to communicate compliance related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both technical staff and non-technical members of the academic community
  • Experience with strategic planning, including developing, organizing and managing a comprehensive IT compliance program
  • Knowledge of standards and protocol for communicating sensitive information to public audiences
  • Experience with editing and proofreading techniques and skills
  • Will be an active participant in the following of safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated success working with internal audit, external auditors, outside consultants, and legal affairs
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Policy and Procedure Compliance (50%)

  1. Review and interpret University of Wisconsin-System (UWSA) information security and information technology policies and procedures.
  2. Draft, modify, and implement ICIT information security policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with UWSA established policies and procedures.
  3. Work with campus Quality Assurance Improvement Manager to establish practice directives and manage the process for implementation.
  4. Develop and manage process for ongoing review of policies, procedures, training materials, and communication materials to ensure compliance requirements and to prevent violations.
  5. Work closely with the CIO and assist on all internal and external IT audits.
  6. Prepare reports for presentation to campus leadership
  7. Assist in development and publication of annual reports


Governance Relations (35%)

  1. Collaborate with campus governance groups to modify, implement, and enforce established information security and information technology policies and procedures.
  2. Develop materials and presentations for ICIT governance meetings.
  3. Coordinate rollout of new or updated IT policies and procedures.


Strategic Alignment (15%)

  1. Facilitate ICIT strategic planning process
  2. Oversee development and publication of annual reports
  3. Coordinate execution of strategic initiatives
