Position Summary:

The University of Dayton Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering invites applications for a Lecturer position specializing in design and manufacturing. The position is a non-tenure track position renewable annually and begins August 16, 2022.

The successful candidate will teach four courses each semester. For the design and manufacturing specialization, the courses may include, for example, Mechanical Design I, Mechanical Design II, Multi-disciplinary Design, and Manufacturing Processes courses. Summer teaching is generally available. The successful candidate who serves for six years or more is eligible to be considered for non-tenure track promotion in accordance with the university’s recently implemented lecturer promotion policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

● ABD with anticipated completion of Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field by July 1, 2022.
● Effective written communication skills
● Demonstrated commitment to understanding and promoting inclusive excellence
● Articulated potential for teaching excellence particularly employing active and experiential learning pedagogies

Preferred Qualifications:

While applicants may not possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following qualifications:
• Successful experience in any or all of the following:
• teaching courses concerning mechanical design and manufacturing
• teaching particularly employing active and experiential learning pedagogies
• engaging individuals from socially and culturally diverse communities
• Commitment to the breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition to support the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession
• Effective oral communication skills
• Effective interpersonal skills

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Interested persons must submit a cover letter addressing all minimum qualifications and any preferred qualifications met, curriculum vitae, contact information for three references, and statement of teaching interests and philosophy. This statement should address any previous experience with the application of active and experiential learning or how these pedagogies would be employed in a course. Please provide a statement as to how you would promote inclusive excellence through your teaching and service. Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations of teaching, peer/supervisor evaluative reports on teaching). There is a limit of two pages for each of the above items. If the Ph.D. is not completed, the research advisor must include a letter stating that the candidate will complete all requirements July 1, 2022.
