Position Summary:

The Nano-Photonics & Nano-Manufacturing (NPNM) Lab in the Department of Physics at the University of Dayton, is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to help develop super-resolution imaging system. This position is expected to start in January 2022.

The postdoctoral research associate's principal area of responsibility is to work on the design and implementation of an optical system for super-resolution imaging. This involves coupling lasers into a commercial optical microscope, numerical modeling of light propagation with either FDTD or FEM method, image processing with Python, C++, or Matlab. The postdoctoral research associate is expected to interact with professors, scientists and students in the University of Dayton's Department of Physics, Department of Electro-Optics and Photonics, Computer Science, and with sponsors and peer research groups at other universities. Responsibilities also include participation in the dissemination of knowledge to train others in the area for future workforce needs, writing reports, publishing work in the public domain, and development of new research proposals.

Minimum Qualifications:

(a) Doctoral degree in Optics or related field (completion of degree requirements expected at hire);
(b) Experience building free-space optical systems, including working with Class III and IV lasers;
(c) Experience handling micro and nanomaterials and following appropriate safety protocols;
(d) Demonstrable publishing record;
(e) Fluent English writing and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

(f) Experience with image processing and programming with Python, C++, or Matlab;
(g) Experience with hardware control using LabView or related software.
