Position Summary:

Position summary:
The Department of Biology at the University of Dayton invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Biology or related biomedical field, specializing in any biomedical discipline including but not limited to genetics, epigenetics, genomics, neuroscience, cell signaling, developmental biology and regenerative biology. The position begins August 16, 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching expectations include an upper-level lecture and laboratory course in Molecular Biology and the development of an upper-level lecture course in the successful applicant’s area of expertise. There will also be the opportunity to create other courses that contribute to the Biology major and our Neuroscience minor. The faculty hire will be expected to serve as a research mentor to Masters and Ph.D. students in our graduate program, and serve as an academic advisor to biology and pre-medicine majors. The candidate will be expected to develop a nationally competitive, extramurally funded research program that involves Ph.D., M.S. and undergraduate students. In addition, the faculty hire will be expected to participate in the Biology Department’s outside speaker program, a graduate special topics journal club course, and to supervise an occasional undergraduate seminar course.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. or international equivalent degree in Biology, or a related biomedical discipline.
• Postdoctoral research experience in a biomedical discipline.
• Record of peer-reviewed scientific publications in a biomedical discipline.
• Articulated commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level and to support the department’s and UD’s commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Effective written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications: While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Excellent record of peer-reviewed scientific publications in genetics, epigenetics, genomics, neuroscience, cell signaling, developmental biology and/or regenerative biology.
• Research program that focuses on molecular determinants of disease processes.
• Successful experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate student research.
• Record of research grant applications to federal agencies.
• Record of acquiring research funding.
• Successful experience working collaboratively within a department, university and/or community setting.
• Ability to contribute to curriculum development.
• Successful experience in teaching biomedical content to undergraduate students.
• Commitment to develop experiential learning opportunities, related to a candidate’s research interests.
• Successful experience working with and/or teaching socially and culturally diverse communities.
• Effective classroom management skills.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills.
• Effective oral communication skills.
• Commitment to the breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition to support the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession.
