About the Opportunity:
The Access Coordinator will work with a case load of student who are Blind or visual impaired and who are Deaf and hard of hearing by reviewing documentation and determining reasonable accommodations for each class. The Coordinator will work to remove barriers to academic materials and education faculty on best practices of teaching student with sensory disabilities.

Responsibilities:
The Access Coordinator is responsible for facilitating access to University courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities for Northeastern students with disabilities. The Access Coordinator works collaboratively to develop and implement best practices in promoting inclusive design, determining and providing reasonable accommodations, and assessing service efficacy. By applying independent judgment and expertise, the Access Coordinator works with students, faculty and administrators to improve accessibility through the delivery of programs and services that reframe disability and promote inclusive design.

This position will also coordinator the DRC's alternative text process by working with student and publishers to obtain required materials. They will also work with faculty to ensure all digital media is captioned in a timely fashion. In addition, they will assist in coordination of CART and ASL interpreter services for student classes and university wide events.

Qualifications:
Two years experience in field, preferably higher education

Education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  • Knowledge of models of disability and inclusive educational design and their application in higher education
  • Knowledge of the application of federal and state laws that provide for an accessible higher education experience
  • Organizational skills
  • Strong written and interpersonal skills
  • Skill at developing and delivering presentations and workshops

    Preferred qualifications:
    - Fluency in American Sign Language
    - Curriculum design and development
    - Experience in a disability services office in higher education
    - Knowledge of web accessibility challenges

    Salary Grade:
    10
