About the Opportunity:
The Assistant Director of the Office of Prevention and Education at Northeastern (OPEN) will be a member of a collaborative team responsible for prevention, education, and training related to: alcohol and other drugs, sexual violence, sexual health and other wellness-related initiatives for the Northeastern University student community. The role includes assisting in implementing a comprehensive, research-driven, culturally relevant, and in-depth prevention programming to create long-lasting change for the campus community. The Assistant Director will act in a direct service role providing assessment and brief intervention services for students referred for alcohol and other drug use. They will also serve as a Confidential Resource Advisor in the Sexual Violence Resource Center, an entry point for student affected by sexual violence. The Assistant Director will provide training and secondary supervision to graduate and work-study students at OPEN. They will provide customized presentations to students, faculty and staff on topics related to alcohol and other drugs and sexual violence prevention. The Assistant Director will provide operational and organizational support around staffing and scheduling for the OPEN team.

  • Provide alcohol and other drug assessment and brief intervention services (BASICS) to students referred by OSCCR, Residential Life or who are self-referred

  • Provide trauma-informed services at the Sexual Violence Resource Center, an entry point for students affected by sexual violence

  • Provide secondary supervision and training to the graduate assistants and work-study students

  • Provide operational and administrative support for both sites staffed by OPEN (Main office and Sexual Violence Resource Center)

  • Facilitate weekly psycho-educational groups on alcohol or sexual violence

  • Provide educational sessions for Orientation, Freshmen Experience/other academic classes, fraternities and sororities, athletes and any other student groups that request an OPEN program

  • Conduct community outreach through programming and educational materials

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling or related field and independent licensure or working towards independent licensure required
  • Experience working with young adults or college-aged population
  • Works exceptionally well with diverse groups, including international populations, those identifying as BIPOC and LGBTQ, and other under-represented populations
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience communicating with college-aged individuals on matters related to alcohol and other drugs, sexual violence, and/or other wellness-related topics
  • Sophisticated understanding of how intersectionality, privilege, and socioeconomic status relate to issues around alcohol/other drugs, sexual violence, sexual health and wellness
  • Strong presentation skills
