About the Opportunity:
Northeastern University seeks enthusiastic and innovative candidates for two First Year Experience Librarians. One position will have an Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities Focus and the other position will have a STEM & Entrepreneurship focus. We invite candidates to apply for one or both positions. Applicants should specify if they would like to be considered for both positions or a specific position in their cover letter. Both opportunities are on-ground positions on Northeastern's Boston campus.
With a sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population of students who are new to the college experience, the successful candidate will advance the library's goal to integrate information literacy into the curriculum, partner with stakeholders to improve the first year experience, and facilitate experiential learning and undergraduate research. They may also liaise with programs, departments, or colleges.

The position is a part of the library's Research and Instruction department, a collaborative and supportive team of over a dozen librarians who foster the Northeastern community's research and learning activities through teaching, consultation, reference, and collection development.

Responsibilities:
1. Build connections with Northeastern's dynamic and ambitious students, staff, and instructors

2. Support programs for First Year students that further the library's learning goals for undergraduates

3. Partner with instructors and librarian colleagues to create new and engaging programs and instruction to support first year students

4. Create and deliver open workshops (that is, workshops open to students outside formal classroom settings) on search and discovery, citation tools, and other topics or tools as needed

5. Participate in the library's growing online learning activities (for example, creation of Canvas modules, library guides, and video and PDF tutorials), with support and training from the Online Learning Team.

6. Contribute content as needed to the library's websites, social media, chat, or other appropriate channels to promote the library's services to first year students.

7. Communicate with instructors, researchers, and colleagues to develop and promote learning activities

8. Select materials for the collection in liaison areas to meet program, accreditation, and grant activities

9. Actively participate in the Northeastern community through committees, teams, working groups, projects, or initiatives that further the university's mission

10. Keep abreast of developments and trends in the rapidly-changing field of academic librarianship

Qualifications:
Required: BA or BS; ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library/Information Science attained or in process of completion and/or Master's degree in education/teaching; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; passion for working with students and ability to build relationships in a diverse community.

Preferred qualifications: ALA-accredited master's degree in Library/Information Science; demonstrated success developing programs and services for undergraduate students, including first year students; experience applying best practices in instructional design and pedagogical principles; experience designing and delivering programs and/or services online.

The Research & Instruction department consists of three teams: the STEM & Entrepreneurship team, the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities team, and the Online Learning and Global Campus Engagement team. Depending on their focus, these positions will sit within the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities team or the STEM & Entrepreneurship team.

Team members across Research & Instruction are deeply engaged in teaching and learning support and are actively developing partnerships and new modes of support for information, data, and digital literacies.
