Forest Utilization Senior Research Associate
Location: Moscow
Division/College: College of Natural Resources

Pay Range: $49,076 per year or higher depending on education and experience
Full/Part Time: Full Time
Position Summary:
This position will conduct forestry research and demonstration on the University of Idaho Experimental Forest (UIEF) in support of the Forest Utilization Research (FUR) program under the supervision of the Director of the Experimental Forest. The position provides technical and applied research support as well as support of outreach and communication to stakeholders and the public on the Experimental Forest. This position will further support planning and coordination of field tours, workshops and instruction.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Forestry, Forest Operations, Natural Resources, or closely-related field.
• Two years of post-master’s research experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Thesis-based MS degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or closely related field.
• At least two years work or equivalent post-master’s research experience with field-based or analytical research in natural resources such as, for example, installation of field plots, data collection or analysis of geospatial or other data.
• Familiarity with office software systems.
• Demonstrated professional experience using written and oral communication, such as preparation of publications, technical reports or proposals, or oral presentations to technical audiences.
• Experience using GIS mapping platforms in a work or research setting.
• Familiarity with field forestry practices.
• Familiarity with desktop publishing or design software.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
• Must be able to lift, carry, and/or otherwise move 50 pounds.
• Ability to work/hike in steep and rugged terrain in forested environment.
• Ability to work in adverse weather and outdoor climate conditions including periods of smoke associated with prescribed/wildland fire.
