The Humanities and Teacher Education division of the Seaver College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences at Pepperdine University is seeking a full-time faculty appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor in Film Studies to begin August 2022. The Film Studies program is interdisciplinary and offers three tracks: critical studies, writing for screen and television, and production.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Film (critical studies), Cinema and Media Studies, English, Creative Writing, or a related discipline. Potential secondary fields include screenwriting, creative writing, production, English, and/or cultural studies. Preference will be given to candidates with degree completion at the time of application with teaching experience and primary training in film (Critical Studies or Film/Television and Media Studies) and secondary training in screen writing. The candidate should demonstrate competencies to support and teach curriculum in cinema critical studies, including aesthetics, history, and theory. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate the ability to teach diverse content areas, be able to contribute to the scholarship in the field, and be able to support curricular assessment, and other teaching responsibilities and university service. The successful candidate will evidence support for the university's Christian mission, the interdisciplinary nature of the film curriculum, and the ability to contribute to student success.
