Position Summary 

The Counseling Center Mental Health Counselor works collaboratively as a team, serving students and their mental health needs. As a training center, we also train graduate level interns to become mature, experienced, and self-aware in the application of counseling skills. As a whole, we value enhancing the lives of the people that we contact. This is a temporary position, 8-16 hours a week for 12-20 weeks of work. (Nov, Jan & Feb at minimum, possibly through April 2022) The counselor will provide brief, drop-in and crisis counseling, conduct intakes and behavioral assessments, as well as potentially carry a small ongoing caseload which would be referred to a permanent staff counselor when the position ends. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling or Mental Health Related Field. 
  • Currently provisionally or fully licensed for practice in Colorado. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • One or more year of post master's experience in mental health counseling.  
  • Experience in providing supervision and consultation to mental health trainees.  
  • Substance abuse experience.  
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with and respond to multiple constituencies both at the college and in the community. 
  • Demonstrated experience in providing services to a diverse client population with cultural humility and responsivity. 
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to a team-oriented work environment.  
  • Demonstrated abilities in leadership, openness and flexibility.  
  • Personal skills of stress tolerance, non-defensiveness and ability to receive and respond to feedback.  
  • Organizational and computer skills to manage timely and appropriate documentation. 

Major Responsibilities 

  • Provide culturally responsive individual, couples, and group therapy to college students, as both scheduled appointments and in open/drop in formats 
  • Conduct mental health triage and crisis intervention work to include possible after-hours emergency services. 
  • Conduct behavioral assessments, including follow-up counseling with students.  
  • Provide mental health consultation for parents, staff, and faculty.  
  • Keep accurate and timely computerized records on all contacts with clients.

This is a temporary position that is paid at $40.00 per hour, 8-16 hours per week.
