Job Description

The Employer Relations and Career Services Director serves as a full-time administrative faculty member on the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Team in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech. The College is a diverse organization that includes over 4,000 undergraduate students in more than 40 majors. The position is responsible for achieving career services goals for students, increasing placement rate, developing and maintaining contacts with employers across a wide range of industries, improving the percent of students having related work experience upon graduation, and planning events for students and employers. Working very closely with representatives in Career and Professional Development, the director is the liaison to our faculty, advisors, and students to communicate important career information. Travel is required to meet with industry partners and host field trips/tours.
The director reports to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs.

Required Qualifications

● Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.
● Experience in employer relations or business development.
● Project management experience.
● Event planning experience.
● Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
● Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and the ability to travel, sometimes on extended trips

Preferred Qualifications

● Working knowledge of career development and advising.
● Employer/industry recruitment experience.
● Working knowledge of college and employer relations.
● Marketing and promotion experience.
● Knowledge of developing industry partnerships for liberal arts and human sciences programs.
