Job Summary

The Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice (CNSJ) at the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health (Center) works to promote health, nonviolence and social justice through trauma informed practice, research, professional development, and advocacy for policy change. The flagship programs of the Center are Healing Hurt People, an innovative hospital and community-based violence intervention program and the Community Health Worker/Certified Peer Specialist (CHWP) Training Academy, a, trauma informed, mutual learning workforce development program for out-of-school youth with lived experience of violence to gain credentials as CHWs and CPSs and become healers and helpers in their own communities. The Academy helps young people grow into trauma informed, human services professionals who share life experience with their clients, break down stigma, and walk alongside people to help them access services.

The Program Manager will coordinate activities related to development and delivery of trauma informed experiential learning and internship programming, trauma-informed career coaching, and postsecondary education application assistance. The Program Manager works closely with local employers to develop new internship sites and provides case management and ongoing youth professional development. The successful candidate will be sensitive to issues of race, violence and trauma, an energetic leader and self-starter, experienced in supervision and program management possess a diverse skillset and able to effectively multi-task and problem solve.

Essential Functions

1. Program Management and Quality Assurance

• Work alongside Director, Training Specialist, and other stakeholders to design youth internship and experiential learning program
• Provide direct supervision to one Training Specialist, including annual performance reviews, scheduling and work plans
• Oversee program to ensure high-quality programming and contractual compliance
• Create programmatic budgets and manage spending
• Responsible for program quality assurance by creating and utilizing data reports to address problems ensure programs are performing to funders’ standards
• Assist with evaluation and research of Workforce Development programs
• Develop and submit reports in compliance with reporting requirements of program funders
• Responsible for implementing and fostering social justice focused, trauma-informed and healing-centered service delivery framework

2. Coordination of Experiential Learning
• Develop and maintain partnerships with outpatient health care providers to secure internship placement opportunities for youth participants
• Educate internship site supervisors on the skillset of Community Health Worker and Certified Peer Specialist workforce within a care team
• Assist site supervisors to plan appropriate intern activities and workflow as needed
• Maintain ongoing communication with internship site supervisors to determine the support interns need to be successful
• Seek additional partnerships with employers and community organizations to secure new internships opportunities for youth participants
• Coordinate internship selection and placement
• Oversee payment of youth internship stipends
• Plan and deliver supplementary training and group supervision activities for interns as needed

3. Individual Career Coaching and Case Management
• Meet with youth participants to assess strengths, needs and barriers; create individualized and holistic service plans that are tailored to their specific needs and goals
• Support youth to apply for employment; create and update resumes and cover letters; provide mock interview role plays
• Assist participants to complete career interest assessments; provide career industry information
• Support participants to research and apply for postsecondary education and training; assist with financial aid and scholarship applications
• Support participants to
• Provide youth participants with ongoing case management, social service, healthcare, and behavioral health referrals when appropriate, following up to ensure linkage
• Plan and facilitate support group meetings for youth in the workforce
• Design and facilitate ongoing professional development trainings for youth in the workforce as needed
• Maintain participant files in accordance with funder requirements and state and local regulations, Complete necessary data entry requirements
• Collect outcomes data; support quality assurance and program evaluation

4. Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelors Degree is Required.
• A minimum of five years professional experience is required.
• Leadership experience, preferably in a supervisory role
• Knowledgeable about healthcare and social service systems
• Experience with workforce development or case management
• Experience with Federal Grant Management preferred
• Sensitivity to issues of race, violence, and trauma
• Excellent presentation, communication, written and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Ability to multi-task and be flexible to changes
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with trauma informed care, positive youth development, and/or harm reduction frameworks
• Experience working with individuals who have experienced significant barriers to employment, including history of violence, trauma, homelessness, incarceration, substance use and mental health challenges
• Experience working in outpatient medical care or substance use treatment settings
• Knowledge of the City of Philadelphia workforce development and adult education systems and strategies
• Experience working with major Philadelphia workforce development and adult education funders such as Philadelphia Works, Inc. (PWI) and Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN)
• Experience working with adult learners and/or opportunity youth
