Department Statement
This position supports the Colgate mission by providing a reliable and robust network and hardware infrastructure that supports the academic and administrative areas of the university. This position is responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining the physical network, connections, servers and all infrastructure related equipment used at Colgate University. Accountabilities
Accountable for implementing, maintaining and improving infrastructure services. Ensure uptime, efficiency and functionality of Colgate’s network infrastructure, including networks, servers, storage, wireless systems, UPS and other assigned service areas.

Manage day to day maintenance of the network, including all fiber, wiring, wired and wireless controllers, switches, UPS’s, routers and wireless access points. Monitor regularly to prevent problems and assess the need for improvements.

Manage day to day maintenance of server, storage, and backup hardware. Monitor regularly to prevent problems and assess the need for improvements.

Manage and support hardware and software firewalls.

Manage and support VoIP systems.

Manage and support network authentication (e.g. Active Directory/Clearpass).

Manage and support DNS and DHCP services.

Manage and support physical servers, appliances and virtual servers (e.g. VMWare).

Knowledge of security standards and requirements.

Research, understand and apply network engineering best practices and procedures.

Ability to Identify, analyze, diagnose, research, resolve and log in a ticketing system all technical issues and requests.

Understand and apply appropriate security and privacy concepts and methods.

Assist ITS in the development of best practices and actively engage in improving ITS and its processes.

Participate in professional development activities.

Perform other related duties and projects as assigned. Professional Experience/ Qualifications
Demonstrated network knowledge: TCP /IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN’s; experience with installing, configuring, and troubleshooting networking equipment (network switching and routing, firewalls, wireless network, cabling, etc.).

Experience working with and knowledgeable of at least one major enterprise network switch manufacture; Aruba HPE, Cisco, Extreme, Juniper, etc

Experience working with and knowledgeable of server virtualization (VMWare) and configuration of servers including Active Directory, web servers, database servers, and email.

Experience scripting as it relates to managing networks and infrastructure.

Demonstrated excellence in client contact and strong communication skills.

Ability to work both independently and within a team. Willing to collaborate, share ideas openly and learn.

Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for working in a highly collaborative environment with diverse populations. Preferred Qualifications
Familiar with cloud technologies ( AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
Familiar with infrastructure automation. Education
