Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Dean of Students Office is committed to assisting each student reach their full potential, while fostering the institution’s mission of providing a transformative liberal arts education for intellectually curious students in a collaborative, academically vibrant residential community that values a diverse world. The Associate Director will work with students to overcome challenges and celebrate successes. While collaborating with other student support offices, the Associate Director will coordinate develop, monitor, and assess support for individual students and the campus community.
  • Manage the care management process for students who are referred to the dean of students office. Work with students who are struggling navigate the resources and support, in an effort to improve the coordination of care and the retention of students. Provide non-clinical case management for students (and their families), faculty and staff seeking guidance around a range of critical and complex student related Issues (i.e. academic, mental/medical/health, behavioral, and personal) as a part of the daily and after-hours emergency on duty rotation.
  • Serve as the manager for the CARE Team meetings, and input information into the system (Maxient) for tracking and documentation. Coordinate and conduct outreach, education, and training for campus community on case management and CARE Team. Conduct presentations to students and parents during new student orientation.
  • Coordinate the college’s process for addressing the needs of students who have crisis, with academic, family, health, and other issues through providing referrals, follow-up services and when necessary, withdraw the student from the college. Collaborate with students, staff, and other individuals to determine a student’s ability to return to Wheaton College after a withdrawal (medical leave) and help establish criteria for their return.
  • Develop and lead comprehensive approaches (emergency protocols, crisis management, policies/procedures, programs and services) to address the needs of students in collaboration with associate vice president for student affairs.
  • Serve as needed as a conduct officer (conduct, academic, sexual misconduct) administrative hearings and ensure student conduct processes are in compliance with standards of due process, FERPA, and the CLERY Act, as outlined in the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008. Regularly consult with legal affairs.
  • Serve as the point person with the Dean of Students for Family and Friends weekend and other campus-wide programming.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance or and participating in required training for role.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, and Education or similar relevant field and 3-5 years of experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree (Social Work, Psychology, Education) preferred.
