CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Center for Research in Soft matter & Polymers (CRiSP) seeks a Program Coordinator to join our team. Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator works collaboratively to plan, develop, and implement a diverse range of programmatic activities that serve CRiSP, the Center for Hybrid, Active, & Responsive Materials (CHARM), and the Center for Plastics Innovation (CPI). The Program Coordinator will work closely with external partners, including Delaware State University, Claflin University, and TeenSHARP, on joint education and outreach activities. This position must work collaboratively with key University of Delaware campus partners, including faculty and staff within and outside of the College of Engineering, to create and sustain programming that supports a diverse, strong, materials research and education community. The Program Coordinator must possess a high level of independent judgement, initiative, and problem-solving skills.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide support for key programmatic initiatives under the direction of the CRiSP Executive Director and in collaboration with the leadership teams of CRiSP, CHARM, and CPI.
  • Assist with conceptualizing and implementing initiatives in coordination with campus units such as academic departments, UD K12 Engineering Office, Undergraduate Research Program, and Graduate College. Activities may include but are not limited to:
    • Coordinate virtual and in-person seminars and workshops.
    • Prepare, coordinate, and develop content for center announcements and outreach materials such as newsletters, brochures, websites, and social media posts.
    • Support the CHARM and CPI Research Experiences for Undergraduates and CHARM (TeenSHARP) HighRise Program with tasks related to advertising, recruiting, applicant selection, session coordination, event planning, and implementation.
    • Support CHARM K-12 activities to bring the Science Olympiad to Delaware Elementary School classrooms, including facilitating classroom matching, Olympiad kit procurement, and graduate student mentorship.
    • Collect and compile education and outreach demographics data.
    • Gather information from faculty, staff, and students to support strategic planning, annual reporting, and grant proposal preparation.
  • Coordinate programmatic activities in partnership with external partners, including but not limited to meetings, workshops, seminar series, joint student mentorship, K-12 and teacher training events, and routine reporting.
  • Develop activities and programs with close attention to budget and administrative procedures.
  • Maintain organized records and checklists for core programmatic activities.
  • Perform job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and at least three years in a program coordination role, or equivalent combination of STEM education and experience.
  • Knowledge of higher education research and administrative environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational skills, program development, and project management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and responsiveness are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to interact well with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with new and existing education and outreach partners.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and implement projects, while managing multiple tasks concurrently and prioritizing among competing needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituents on a variety of research management and outreach topics.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate ad-hoc reports that are meaningful and understandable to those not familiar with the data being reported.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply University and funding agency guidelines and procedures.
  • High level of competency with calendaring, collaboration, and communication tools (e.g., Google Suite, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required.
  • Competency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Acrobat, Illustrator, and InDesign preferred.
  • Experience in an interdisciplinary center environment preferred.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
