Job Description:

Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine seeks general dentists as full-time clinical faculty for a new dental school in Joplin, Missouri. General dentists will serve as educators in the simulation laboratory and/or as group leaders for a team based comprehensive care clinical education program in the Oral Health Center.

The general dentist will serve as faculty to oversee the provision of dental care provided by dental students. The College expects to serve patients across the lifespan in the four-state region, expanding access to dental care in this underserved rural area.

Faculty must be motivated and engaged clinicians who are excited to help build an innovative and dynamic academic and clinical dental medicine program, educating the next generation of dentists while providing comprehensive care to a rural and diverse group of patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Candidates must demonstrate a passion for dentistry and a strong desire to teach students in a demanding, fast-paced, academic environment
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning and discovery
  • The successful candidate is expected to be able to provide didactic and clinical education of pre-doctoral dental students in the simulation laboratory, in the Group Practice, and in community settings
  • The faculty member is expected to provide comprehensive general dental care when needed in the Oral Health Center
  • Candidates should be highly motivated to be part of the development and growth of a new dental school and willing to serve as academic coaches and role models for students when providing compassionate, ethical, and evidenced based care of patients
Qualifications:
  • Qualified candidates must possess a D.D.S./D.M.D. degree
  • The preferred candidate will be currently licensed in Missouri or have an active dental license in a US state or Canada and be eligible for licensure in Missouri
  • Didactic and clinical instruction in general dentistry to pre-doctoral dental students within the simulation laboratory and group practice will be core responsibilities for this position
  • Preference given to candidates with prior teaching experience and advanced training in general or restorative dentistry
  • Candidates must demonstrate a passion for dentistry, an enthusiasm for dental education, and a strong desire to teach students in a demanding, startup academic environment
  • A strong desire to improve the oral and overall health for patients in the region through collaboration with other primary care professionals is encouraged
